Gavin Cameron remembered

I wrote last week of the sad news of the death of one of my correspondents, the Oxford economist Gavin Cameron. Gavin was only 38; he died of complications of cystic fibrosis. I much enjoyed, and learned much from, our correspondence and regret that I never met him. His obituary in The Times gives some indication of his intellectual gifts and scholarly attainments. His was clearly a tragically short life excellently lived.

I'm very glad to have heard from Gavin's family, who've pointed me to two things that are well worth drawing to wider attention. One is the establishment of the Gavin Cameron Memorial Economics Fund, "to promote the highest standards of academic achievement in his beloved area of economics". The second is a link that will enable you to add your name to the NHS Organ Donor Register. I had never got round to doing this myself. I shall do so now, with much respect to the late Gavin Cameron.
